You cannot be born a Christian. Here is why:

What is faith?

There are two aspects to faith. Intellectual assent and trust. Trust is based on real knowledge. Intellectual assent means agreeing with the facts. A chair is a common example used to illustrate this. You see an object you recognize as a chair. Your knowledge tells you that a chair is used to sit on and, your visual evaluation of this chair informs you that this chair appears as though it will support you. For example, it does not appear to be damaged. But, to sit on the chair you need to believe that it will support you. Even though you have knowledge about chairs, you still need to believe (give intellectual assent) that when you sit on this chair it will support you.

This is how the Bible defines faith in Hebrews 1:1 -- “Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for [trust/knowledge], the conviction of things not seen [intellectual assent/belief].”

Blind faith is the willingness to believe in someone or something in the absence of reasonable proof. That is not what the Bible means by faith. Biblical faith is an informed faith.

Notice that this definition of faith excludes people from being born as Christians. Just because someone is born into a Christian family, or born into a Christian culture, or goes to church as a child, that does not automatically make them a Christian. Each person comes to faith individually. Each person must come to the knowledge they are a sinner and that Jesus Christ is the ONLY Savior... there is NOTHING you can do to save yourself from the consequences of your having disobeyed God. Only Jesus Christ can do that; did do that; and did make it available to you. Do you know these facts? Do you accept these facts as true?

Revelation 3:20 is a call to the church... to the church that has turned away from the Lord. That's why He is knocking at the door of the church. Is there anyone there to let Him in?

Is it OKAY to eat SHELLFISH?

Non-Christians often accuse Christians of violating the Old Testament law because we eat shellfish (clams, prawns, lobster, etc.) Leviticus plainly prohibits this. What they do not understand is that there are three types of law in the Bible: civil law; ceremonial law; and the moral law.

Civil law is given by our government. Civil law includes health laws, business regulations, contract law, and other laws that keep people safe and ensure commerce operates fairly. These laws change, depending on the circumstances. At the time of Leviticus God was the head of Israel's government, so He made the civil laws. Those laws do not apply today. Our various levels of government have the responsibility for making our civil laws today.

The ceremonial law applied to the nation of Israel and was about their relationship with God. It was centered on the sacrificial system and the Temple. With Christ's death on the cross those were done away with, and the ceremonial law no longer applies.

This leaves the moral law, which includes but is not limited to the Ten Commandments. The moral law describes God's character. All of the moral law, except the sabbath, was reiterated in the New Testament. As God's image bearers we are to exhibit God's character. That means the moral law still applies today.

Loving God and obeying God are the same thing.

Love is an action, not a feeling. Loving God means obeying God. Loving our neighbors means doing things for them (sacrificually if needed) to meet their greatest need. Everyone's greatest need is Jesus Christ, so telling others about sin, hell, and salvation through trusting in Jesus Christ is the greatest love we can have for anyone.
