...these are written so that you may believe Jesus is
the Messiah, the Son of God, and by believing you may have
life in His name. (John 20:31)
The overall message of this gospel is that you will
be saved through repentance (turning away from disobeying
God) and trusting that Jesus Christ fully paid your penalty
for breaking God's commands. In many cases John expresses
this simply as "believe."
Because John focuses on salvation, his gospel centers on
the person and work of Jesus Christ, and in particular the
diety of Jesus Christ. He is God, and John provides many

Jesus is God; he calls us to believe in Jesus as our savior;
so that we may have life -- eternal life through Christ
In addition, John describes how people responded to Jesus'
message of redemption and salvation -- they either accept
it or reject it. That is the same choice you have.
